Thumb Cove State Marine Park

Thumb Cove State Marine Park is located in Soldotna, Alaska, on the east side of Resurrection Bay. It is open for tent camping, hiking, fishing and many other outdoor activities. The camp also offers two cabins, one of which is wheel-chair accessible.

Getting there

Thumb Cove State Marine Park is one of five marine state parks in Alaska. These marine parks are popular places for recreational boaters and fishermen to spend the night. Thumb Cove Park is only accessible by boat. For those who want to visit the park but do not own a watercraft, boat rentals and commercial boating taxis are available in surrounding areas.

Camping accommodations

Along the beach of Thumb Cove State Marine park are the tent camping sites, available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The cabins are reservation-only and are fitted with two full-size bunk beds each and a wood stove. The Spruce Glacier cabin is wheel-chair accessible.

Activities to enjoy at the park

There are many recreational activities available at the park. Salmon fishing is very popular, along with kayaking, hiking and wildlife viewing. Visitors to the park are impressed with the view of Porcupine Glacier, one of the most beautiful and visible parts of the park and the source of fresh water for campers.
