Taku Harbor State Marine Park

Located 20 miles south of Juneau, Taku Harbor State Marine Park is a popular travel destination for fishermen and crabbers. Only accessible by air or water, the area provides breathtaking sights in every direction.
History
Formerly a large salmon cannery, all that is left of the area's previous life are old pier pilings, an abandoned, barely-standing edifice and a small boat graveyard. Arranged in perfect lines, the wood scaffolding of the former docks is both eerie and whimsical; they easily paint an image in your mind of a loud, bustling factory.
Fishing
Visitors to Taku Harbor State Marine Park come for the great fishing. Boaters can expect to reel in a variety of lifeforms, including shrimp, octopus, crab and, of course, salmon. The area is often filled with private vessels enjoying the sights and sounds of the region, but the park stays very quiet and serene.
Camping
There is one, red cedar cabin located within Taku Harbor State Marine Park. The cabin can accommodate up to six adults, and the maximum stay is five days. Visitors are required to bring their own diesel or kerosene to power the heater and stove. Mattresses are supplied, but any other creature comforts or necessities, such as blankets, food and water, are the responsibility of travelers.
While guests may not find picnic tables and nature paths in Taku Harbor State Marine Park, there are plenty of other places in Alaska to do those things. Taku Harbor is for the boat and nature enthusiast who is seeking a secluded, undeveloped spot to participate in the sport of fishing and experience the untouched wonders of Alaska.
