Surprise Cove State Marine Park

Surprise Cove State Marine Park is located in the Prince William Sound area of Alaska, closest to the city of Whittier. It is at the western side of the mouth of the Cochrane Bay and encompasses 2,280 acres. The park is most frequently used for camping, though there are other recreational activities as well.
Camping at Surprise Cove State Marine Park
Surprise Cove State Marine Park has seven campsites. The largest of these is protected from the weather and contains groundcover of flat slate pebbles. This campsite is often used by groups with kayaks and small motorboats. It accommodates roughly 12 tents. There is a bear-proof locker and latrines available at this site. The second largest campsite has room for five tents, but is only usable in mild weather due to the beach surf. The other five campsites have room for single tents only.

During a stay at Surprise Cove State Marine Park, go on one of several hiking trails throughout the park. Vistas include forested uplands and two large lakes which drain into Surprise Cove. The lakes are suitable for both fishing and kayaking.
