The history of Old Sitka

Located in the southeast corner of Alaska along the Starragavan Bay, this region was first settled by Russian travelers in the early 1800s. Today, the site is a designated historical landmark and popular retreat for local residents and tourists. The park's waterfront landscape offers incredible views of the dark northern waters that make Alaska a unique destination among the states.

Activities to enjoy at the park

Public boat docks allow both casual and intrepid explorers to sail the waters of Starrigavan Bay and further into the open sea. Fishing is another favorite activity, with a variety of species ready for capture all year round. Two primary trails serve hikers in search of spectacular views. The Forest and Muskegs trail is a gentle 1.25 mile trek; an informative brochure is available at the ranger station to provide the trail's historical and cultural background. For a slightly longer hike, choose the Mosquito Cove trail to remark at the grandeur of the park's spruce and hemlock forests. The Alaska Marine Highway Ferry Terminal and several campgrounds are located within walking distance of the entrance to Old Sitka, providing convenient access to the comforts of civilization.

Experience nature as you have never seen it before at Old Sitka State Historical Park. Enjoy the awe-inspiring thrill of the Alaskan wilderness with a variety of outdoor recreation opportunities.
