Entry Cove State Marine Park

The small cove and lagoon of Entry Cove State Marine Park is surrounded by lush, forested landscape and panoramic views. Located near Whittier in the Prince William Sound Area, the park boasts beautiful Alaskan wilderness, a wealth of wildlife and easy water access.

Exploring the park

A natural arch on the eastern shore invites explorers and the curious to come in for a closer look. The cove and camp area offer a beautiful view of Tebenkof Glacier. During low tides, a sand spit emerges that connects the mainland to Pigot Point Island, which is a popular camping spot for the more adventurous. Sites for approximately 10 tents are found just to the east of the lagoon entrance and above the gravel beach, up among the trees. The site is on a “first come first serve” basis.

Know before you go

Good anchorage is available during the day near the cove entrance, but variable winds out of Blackstone Bay prevent overnight use. Drinking water is obtained from a nearby stream. The lagoon is a good site for clamming, but the entrance is quite shallow and is only accessible by small boats at high tide. It is frequented by groups of kayakers for its stunning scenery and peaceful waters. As with all state parks in Alaska, campers are urged to preserve the natural beauty of the park by practicing low impact camping techniques. This includes relying on gas stoves for cooking, removing all trash and leaving non-game and marine life intact.
