Denali State Park

For a true wilderness experience and beautiful views of Denali, "The High One," also known as Mt. McKinley, Denali State Park in central Alaska is the experience of a lifetime. Just outside the boundary of Denali National Park, the state park offers unparalleled views of the Alaska Range from hiking trails skirting ridges of neighboring mountains. With less tourism than the national park, the state park is a wonderful place to enjoy the scenery of the area in a quiet, isolated setting.
Activities in the park
Denali State Park's main attraction is its beautiful hiking trails. Flora and fauna are sure to impress, with populations of bear, moose, wolf and caribou in the area. Birdwatching is fruitful as well, as the park spans a number of landscapes from river valleys to ridges, attracting a host of species to observe. A few cabins are available, as are several campgrounds and backcountry sites. Byers Lake, located within the park, offers a tranquil setting for kayaking; boat rentals are available on location. In winter, do not miss out on cross country skiing, as a silent glide through the mountains and valleys ensures many glimpses of wildlife.
For a quiet, backcountry experience, Denali State Park offers tremendous views and a truly wild experience without the hustle and bustle of tourists found in the national park. Go camping, take a hike, enjoy the backcountry, or take a serene paddle around the lake; whatever you choose results in the experience of a lifetime.
