Boswell Bay State Marine Park

Come explore one of Alaska's most majestic state marine parks. Not far from Cordova, you can find the beautiful Boswell Bay State Marine Park on the eastern tip of Hinchinbrook Island. The 1964 earthquake pushed the shoreline one mile further out into the Gulf of Alaska, and the progression of vegetation over the past 40 years makes for an interesting view.

Things to do

If you are a true nature lover, Boswell Bay State Marine Park delivers. This undeveloped park offers a host of outdoor adventures. Comb the high-energy beach for hours searching for hidden treasures, or settle in for an afternoon of wildlife observation. Adjacent to the Copper River Delta State Critical Habitat, which has a crucial role in migration of birds in the Pacific Flyway, areas of the park offer a perfect view for you to do a bit of bird watching. Fishing and hunting are popular activities, and the park has no shortage of opportunities to partake of both.

Low-impact camping

In an effort to actively preserve the wilderness character and pristine ecological conditions of the beaches and forests of the marine park, consider implementing low-impact camping techniques when you visit. Using a gas stove for cooking and camping on the beach instead of on the forest floor is highly recommended and helps to maintain the delicate ecosystem. Making an effort to leave the campsite as you found it ensures that the majestic beauty of the park's natural environment remains intact.

Accessible by both boat and floatplane, Boswell Bay State Marine Park is a hidden gem set against the majestic beauty of an Alaskan backdrop.
