When people think of raw, natural beauty within the US they tend to picture an image that represents part of the everyday scenery you can find in Alaska. Alaska is rich with history and offers the holy grail of outdoor experiences. One such historic place is the Big Delta State Historical Park.

Address and directions

If you are coming from Anchorage, take the Glenn Highway North 297.6 miles, turn left onto the Alaska Highway, bear right onto Reka Road and arrive at Big Delta. If you are coming from Fairbanks, take the Richardson highway South 85.8 miles, turn left on Reka Road and you are there.

Facilities

The park is officially recognized by Alaska as a state park. It covers 11 acres and has 25 campsites for a fee of $5 a night. There is a camping limit of 15 days. You can also come with an RV and camp, and there is no size limit on RVs. The park offers picnic tables, bathrooms, running water, a dump station and a fun gift store.

Activities

There is plenty to do at this historic monument from hiking, visiting historical sites, backpacking and taking a stroll through the museum that highlights the local history.

No visit to Alaska is complete without a few nights camping (assuming it is not the middle of winter) out in the wilderness. Make the Big Delta State Historical Park your first stop, and start creating memories to last a lifetime.
